DECATUR: Saturday, April 23, 10:30AM. Join George Sanko for a Sun Garden Walk through GPC Native Plant Sun Garden beds from 10:30 to 11:30 am. George will highlight some of the outstanding sun loving natives we have in the garden. A portion of the walk will also include the Shade gardens. After the walk, the Plant Sale will be open from 11:30 to 12:30. Sun Natives ,Trilliums and Native Azaleas and many other native plants. Wednesday, April 27, Don Jacobs speaks at Lunch & Wildflower Series "Plants for changing times".This year talks are being held in a new campus building SH, room SH-1500, just beyond the greenhouses. LAGRANGE: CSI in The Garden: Hills and Dales Estate. Saturday, April 30, 2011. 10:00 a.m. - noon Join Alabama Horticultural Extension Agent, Kerry Smith, as she takes you on a detective journey through the garden. During your tour you will encounter aphids, mites, powdery mildew, nematodes and other garden criminals. Careful study of all the clues will lead you to the culprit so you can solve the crime. $20. COBB: Cobb County Master Gardeners present “Through the Garden Gate 2011” You are invited to stroll through the private gardens of the Cobb County Master Gardeners as well as other featured local gardens, Master Gardening projects, and the Plant Sale and Fair. This rain or shine event is Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Advance Tickets are $10.00 per person and may be purchased through the Cobb Extension office beginning in March. ATHENS: Friends of the State Botanical Garden Spring Trip to South Carolina, May 19-20, 2011 On this overnight trip we will visit Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden in Bishopville (www.pearlfryar.com) and Kalmia Gardens at Coker College in Hartsville (www.kalmiagardens.org). There will also be a surprise or two along the way. The motor coach will leave the State Botanical Garden at 7:30am on Thursday, May 19 and return by 6:30pm on Friday, May 20. May 19 – Leave the Athens at 7:30am, lunch at Charlene’s Taste of Country in Bishopville (a favorite of Pearl’s),afternoon visit to Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden, check in at the Comfort Inn in Hartsville, dinner at B&B Restaurant in Darlington. May 20 – Continental breakfast at the hotel, guided tour of Kalmia Gardens after breakfast, lunch at Mr. B’s Seafood Restaurant in Hartsville (another favorite of Pearl’s), return to Athens. Cost is $149/person Double Occupancy; $179/person Single Occupancy. Price includes transportation, entrance fees, meals and lodging. ROSWELL: Roswell Lavender Festival June 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Barrington Hall. Inspired by Evelyn Simpson, descendant of Roswell co-founder Barrington King, the event honors and commemorates the beauty and various uses of this ancient herb in a lively family-friendly festival setting. The site's gardens and grounds will feature a variety of demonstration booths, vendors, hands-on crafts and performances. Information: 770-640-3855.
