*ROME: Georgia Master Gardener Association Spring 2011 Conference on April 29 and 30 in Rome, Georgia. When in Rome….Green Gardening for the Future. Floyd Master Gardeners invite you to come to Rome, Georgia for the Spring 2011 Georgia Master Gardener Association Conference. Located in beautiful northwest Georgia in an enchanted land where the rivers meet the mountains, there is something here for everyone to enjoy. On Friday, you can register early to get into the Forum to sneak and peek at all the goodies the vendors have for sale. A tour of the majestic Oakhill Museum and Gardens is planned for the afternoon. Then, join in the fun at the ECO Center for an evening of wine and hors d’oeuvres. You also will have opportunity to meet the speakers for the conference. And, best of all, you can take a ride on the Roman Holiday Riverboat. If you still have the energy, the conference continues bright and early on Saturday at the Forum. The focus of this conference is on ecologically sound practices that go beyond gardening. The agenda is jam packed with all sorts of interesting things to do and see. MACON: Georgia Urban Forest Council Program "Show Me the Money! Funding and Other Resources for Urban Forestry Projects," February 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wesleyan College, 4760 Forsyth Road, Macon. ATHENS: Leopold Discussion and Greenfest Kick-Off. Saturday, March 12, 9:00 – 10:30 am State Botanical Garden of Georgia. Aldo Leopold(1887-1948), author of A Sand County Almanac, is considered the father of wildlife ecology. Join us for a morning of learning Aldo Leopold’s sustainability concepts through the eyes of local heroes. Among the guests speaker will be Walt Cook and Nancy Lindbloom. This event will also serve as a kick-off event for 2011 Greenfest. There will be representatives present from organizations involved in Greenfest. Following this event will be “An Aldo Leopold Tour through the Garden”, a Saturday stroll and discussion of the "integrity, stability, and beauty" of the Garden's natural communities, with Linda Chafin, Conservation Botanist, starting at 10:30 am.
