MG Snippets 1/14/2010

January is National Radon Action Month. Radon is a silent killer; it’s the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers in the United States. UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences, with its cooperating partners, has an excellent radon education and affordable testing program. http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ext/housing/radon/radon_kits.php

Radon test kits are $6.50 if you order by mail or $5 if you pick up from a participating Extension Office.

The link to order a test kit is http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ext/housing/radon/radon_test.html

Print and mail the form with a check for $6.50 to the Radon Educator for your area. Map showing RE regions and addresses is here. http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ext/housing/radon/images/radon_kit_distribution_map.pdf

The coming of spring means that thousands of students across the state are preparing for 4-H Project Achievement. Please consider volunteering to help a student succeed. Ask your 4-H Agent or PA how you can help. Often what’s most needed is an encouraging and constructive audience for the students to practice in front of.
