FAYETTEVILLE: Fayette County Master Gardeners present: Everything You Need to Know for a Successful Garden! with Mr. Lester Bray. This class is suited for the backyard farmer and for the general homeowner. Based on Mr. Bray’s 35 years of farming and teaching, his presentation will include information on seed selection, planting dates, when and how to tie tomatoes properly for the best yield, plus fertilization and pesticide applications and sources for seeds and equipment. (If you are interested in learning about plasticulture in the vegetable garden-you should attend one of these sessions.) COLUMBUS: Chattahoochee Valley Camellia Society Show Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 from 1:00 – 5:00 at the Columbus Museum in Columbus, Georgia. American Camellia Society sanctioned show will have 30 judges, led by well known Camellia enthusiast John Newsome. There will be categories for growers of all levels, including novices, and cash prizes. This will be the first Camellia Show for Columbus since 1951. It is open to the public free of charge and it welcomes spectators as well as competitors. There is no preregistration and no deadline for entry or attending. All blooms must conform to the American Camellia Society rules and may be brought to the museum between 7:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 12. Camellia society members will be available to help those entering a show for the first time. You do not need to be a society member to enter or to attend. CAES ALUMNI TOUR: Plans are under way for the 2011 trip to the beautiful and historic formal gardens of Italy. Join Dean Angle, Tim Smalley and CAES alumni and friends for a tour of the "Holy Land of Garden Design," including visits to the world's best-known Renaissance fountain garden, Villa D’Este, and one of the world's finest botanical gardens, Villa Taranto on Lake Maggiore. The group will also join the CAES viticulture class in Cortona for a tour of the vineyards, olive groves and winery at the Falconeri winery in Tuscany.
